Gestore dei Mercati Energetici S.p.A. (GME) is a company established under article 5, para. 1 of Legislative Decree no. 79 of 16 March 1999. It is wholly owned by Gestore dei Servizi Energetici-GSE S.p.A. (former Gestore della Rete di Trasmissione Nazionale S.p.A.), which is in turn wholly owned by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. GSE is also the parent company of Acquirente Unico-AU S.p.A. and Ricerca sul sistema energetico–RSE S.p.A., both 100% controlled. All the companies belonging to the GSE Group have responsibilities of public interest in the energy sector.
